Shamisen live concert on the Nō stage
Their performances are rousing and lively, the sounds of the shamisen enriched with vocals, bamboo flute and percussion. Mitsune plays a lively mix of traditional Japanese folk songs, virtuoso modern repertoire and original compositions with influences from blues, rock, cinematic and global music. Since their formation in 2018, Mitsune have performed at numerous festivals, cultural events and concerts across Europe. Their second album Hazama was released in 2022, was praised by Songlines and Rolling Stone and entered the Transglobal World Music Charts at number 10. The name Mitsune translates from Japanese as "sweet sound", but is also a reference to the word "mitsu", which stands for three of something - the three shamisen strings, three women, three cultures coming together in harmony.
