On August 30, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the city friendship between Berlin and Tokyo, NION premieres ‘Mitate,’ a showcase of traditional Japanese dance by the youngest Nihon Buyo master, Tokukazuhiro Hanayagi, at the Samurai Museum. Witness the magic of traditions reborn and reinterpreted on our Noh stage, crafted specifically for Berlin’s largest Samurai collection.

The event begins with an introduction by Prof. Mitsuhiro Takemura, followed by Tokukazuhiro Hanayagi’s performance of two dances based on the Noh play ‘Funabenkei,’ titled ‘Shizuka and Tomomori.’ These dances feature the Naginata, a long-handled weapon historically used by Japanese military commanders. The performance will conclude with a Q&A session, offering the audience a deeper insight into the art form.

This event marks Hanayagi’s first performance in Germany and Europe, providing a rare glimpse into the soul of traditional Japanese dance. Join us for this unique cultural experience. Secure your tickets now and be part of this historic celebration!
